description Surrounded by the rolling hills of Hunterdon County, Spruce Run Recreation Area is popular with picnickers, swimmers, fishermen, boaters and campers. The reservoir was one of the first water supply facilities to be constructed and operated by the state and covers 1,290 acres with 15 miles of shoreline for recreation. Spruce Run is the third largest reservoir in the state after Round Valley and Wanaque reservoirs. For campers we offer 67 tent and trailer sites and three shelters with fire rings and picnic tables. Modern restrooms and showers are within walking distance. Trailer sanitary dump station is open April 1 through October 31. Several picnic areas with table and grills are located throughout the park. For larger groups, we also offer a reservable picnic area with shelter. This picnic area can accommodate approximately 200 people. It may be reserved for a fee. Please call the park office for availability and reservations ( 908)638-8572. Hunting is permitted in designated areas within the park and is subject to Division of Fish and Wildlife regulations. drivingDirection From the east (NYC): The park is easily accessible from Interstate 78. Heading westbound take Exit 17 and continue on rte 31North to the 3rd traffic light, Van Syckles Rd. Make a left onto Van Syckles Rd. The park entrance is a mile and a half up the road on your left. From the west (Pennsylvania): The park is easily accessible from Interstate 78. Heading eastbound take Exit12. At the end of the ramp turn left. Proceed to traffic light and turn left (this takes you over the highway). Continue 1 ½ miles and turn right onto Van Syckles Rd. The park entrance is two miles down on the right.

importantInformation There are NO PETS and NO ALCOHOL allowed in the campgrounds. Have your equipment with you and be ready to camp when you register. Make and license plates of all vehicles must be provided at registration. OCCUPANCY -Limited to 6 individuals per campsite. Only 2 vehicles permitted on any campsite. Extra vehicles will be required to park in a designated area (additional fees will apply). AGE REGULATIONS -Campsites must be registered and occupied by a responsible person 18 years of age or older. QUIET HOURS -From 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., and are strictly enforced. Violators of this policy may be evicted. GENERATORS -May be used except during quiet hours. If the use of a generator is deemed unreasonably loud by the facility staff then individual use of a generator may be prohibited/limited. FIRES -Must be built in fire rings provided. Only dead and down wood may be used for fuel. No chainsaws are allowed in park, and cutting down trees, alive or dead is prohibited. The beach is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The snack bar and all beach equipment rentals are available during this period. Each year the park makes every effort to provide safe swimming opportunities by testing the water and by keeping the swimming areas staffed with lifeguards. Please be aware that if the safety of our swimmers is compromised, due to lack of lifeguard coverage or water quality issues, swimming will be prohibited and therefore cannot be a guaranteed activity. We apologize for this inconvenience as it may occur with little advance notice. Boats are restricted to having a 10 Horsepower or less on Reservoir. There are bear in the area. Please keep a clean campsite. Use dumpsters located in park and do not leave food out. Waterfront access in campgrounds is limited to campers registered in those specific sites. Additional parking for registered campers and their guests is available in the park for an additional fee. You must stop in at the park office and register for your site upon arrival. If you arrive after office hours you must check in the following morning by 9:00am.

recreationDescription From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the park offers a swimming beach staffed with lifeguards. Restrooms and shower facilities are available to the public at this time. Six picnic areas spaciously located in wooded and open areas overlooking the reservoir. Includes tables, charcoal grills and restroom facilities. For larger groups, we also offer a Group Picnic Area, by reservation only. The reservoir is a popular destination for motor boating (10hp limit), sailing (30 feet above the water line height limit), canoe/kayaking, and windsurfing. The park has its own boat launch and car-top launch areas. Boat rentals are available seasonally. Twenty-nine species of fish are contained within the waters of Spruce Run including largemouth bass, catfish, sunfish, yellow perch and carp. Trout, northern pike and hybrid bass are stocked by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife. From the pathways throughout the park one can enjoy year-round birding.
